Diagnostic Painter Workshop 2026

The ÀNI Art Academies Waichulis campus welcomed artists from across the region this past weekend for another successful Diagnostic Painter Workshop, held June 4–7, 2026. This annual four-day intensive, led by ÀNI Art Academies Co-Founder and curriculum designer Anthony Waichulis, provides artists with a rare opportunity to critically examine and refine the processes behind their painting practice.

Rather than focusing solely on the completion of a finished work, The Diagnostic Painter challenges participants to investigate the countless decisions that shape the outcome of a painting. Through demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on exercises, artists explored topics such as palette composition, brush loading strategies, support selection, application dynamics, anchoring techniques, and effective finishing approaches. The goal of the workshop is to help artists identify whether their current methods are moving them closer to, or further away from, their creative objectives.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s workshop and contributed to an engaging and inspiring weekend of learning. We look forward to welcoming both returning and new participants to future workshops and creative events at ÀNI Art Academies.
