Sophie Shand is a contemporary photorealistic artist with a background in atelier-style oil painting. She cultivates the style of realism to depict themes of identity, vulnerability, and the inexorable passage of time. Sophie graduated from the Carlin Academy of Fine Art and is currently studying with the ÀNI Art Academy Waichulis, and thus employs a highly developed technical skill set in a wide range of materials.
This utilization of art as a way of expression began in early childhood; as the youngest of six, her voice was rarely heard, thus directing her to a method of self-expression where she had a silent yet powerful voice. This passion for creation endured through every challenge and every joy she experienced, growing more nuanced through this journey of self-realization. Her art pieces attempt to explore the nuanced complexities of existence, serving as vessels for introspection and fostering a connection with the viewer that invites them to reflect on our collective human experience.
