This past weekend, Anguillans around the world celebrated Anguilla Day, one of the island’s most important national holidays. Observed annually on May 30th and celebrated publicly on June 1st this year, the occasion commemorates the 1967 Anguilla Revolution and the formation of the Republic of Anguilla. It is a day dedicated to honoring the island’s history, cultural identity, and the resilience of its people.
The celebrations extend far beyond a single day. Throughout the month of May, communities across Anguilla participated in a variety of events highlighting the island’s heritage and traditions. Activities included poetry festivals, a National Day of Prayer, youth quizzes and spelling bees, cultural exhibitions, community competitions, and educational programs designed to foster pride in Anguillan history among younger generations.
The official festivities culminated on June 1st with a ceremonial gathering and parade at Ronald Webster Park, named after the island’s revered political leader and “Father of the Nation.” The day also featured traditional boat races, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and concluded with a spectacular fireworks display.
At ÀNI Art Academies, we are proud to have a campus in Anguilla and to be part of the island’s vibrant creative community. Our apprentices and staff contribute to the rich cultural landscape that makes Anguilla such a unique and inspiring place. As an institution dedicated to preserving and advancing artistic traditions, we recognize the importance of celebrating the history, culture, and people that shape the communities in which our academies operate.
