Smartermarx Magazine – March 2026

The newest issue of Smartermarx Magazine is now live, bringing together articles that explore art from a global perspective. This month’s theme is Global Awareness, which ÀNI Art Academies describes as “fostering cultural understanding, social responsibility, and a commitment to global outreach and engagement.” The articles in this issue examine how artists, traditions, and ideas connect across cultures and geographic boundaries.

In More Alike Than Different: What Fifteen Years of Global Education Taught Me About Humanity, Anthony Waichulis reflects on nearly three decades of teaching and the development of a global community of artists through the Waichulis Curriculum. Grounded in perceptual learning and structured skill development, the program has brought together students from diverse cultural backgrounds through a shared training methodology focused on building strong visual communication skills.

ÀNI Art Academies President Jeremy Sinsimer explores the histories of Sri Lanka, the Dominican Republic, and Thailand in Islands in the Stream. His article examines how places often viewed as geographically remote have historically functioned as centers of cultural exchange, shaped by the movement of people, ideas, and artistic traditions.

Creative Corner contributor Anya Dribas investigates the little-known history of Olympic art competitions in Art and the Olympic Games: From Medal-Winning Masterpieces to Today’s Global Winter Stage. The article traces the early integration of visual arts into the Olympic movement and considers the enduring vision that the Games celebrate creativity and cultural exchange alongside athletic achievement.

The issue also includes a technical studio article, When Dry Media Collide: Graphite with White Pastel and Charcoal, which explores how combining these materials can expand tonal range and strengthen control over value relationships and visual contrast in drawing.
