Yanique Beliard Michel

ÀNI Art Academies Dominicana

(b1955) Yanique was born in Cap Haitian, Haiti. The city is located 1 kilometer from Vertieres, the landmark where the slaves of St. Domingue defeated Napoleon’s French troops to gain their freedom, making HAITI the only country in HISTORY established by slave revolt. The courage, determination, and resilience of the nation’s builders were often mentioned at Yanique’s home. But, her mother’s obsession with education and work predominated and influenced every aspect of Yanique’s upbringing. She nurtured Yanique’s passion for reading, and by the time that Yanique graduated from high school, she had been exposed to the literary work of most famous French writers: Jean Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Voltaire etc.

Yanique’s life reflects her mother’s imprint. After working for thirty-five years as a Pulmonary Care Practitioner, she concentrated her time on writing.

In 2020, during chemotherapy for breast cancer, she realized it was more effective for her to express her feelings with images. A friend informed her about ÁNI Art Academy in the Dominican Republic. The program appeared difficult, however the statement: “We believe that great artists are not born, they are educated.”, in ÁNI’s introductory texts filled her with hope. Yanique joined ÁNI Art Academy in October 2021. Her desire is, to finish the course and to make the list of ÁNI’s great achievers.
