Joe Hom

ÀNI Art Academies America

Joe Hom (b.1972) is an American contemporary realist artist based in New York City. Informed by his experiences and the cultures and communities he belongs to, Joe’s compositions seek to capture moments and stories that mainstream narratives have overlooked.

Born in New York City, his interest in art started at an early age. In intermediate school, he won a competition to design the logo for Paulo Intermediate School in Staten Island, New York, and he came in 2nd place in a New York City-wide children’s book illustration contest. He also served as art director and set designer for several high school musicals and as layout editor and illustrator for the yearbook and literary magazines. As a child of immigrant parents, his artistic endeavors were unfortunately halted in favor of a more “suitable profession,” and he graduated from university as a computer science engineer and worked in corporate technology through his early 40s. Technology was never his calling, so he switched from technology to the fine arts. After reacquainting himself with the fundamentals of drawing and oil painting in 2023, he decided to further his skills. He is currently studying as an apprentice at ÀNI Art Academies America in Red Bank, New Jersey.
