Ani Anguilla Artist, Vidya Birkhoff can be found in Interviewing the Caribbean Magazine's Spring 2019 issue. Interviewing the Caribbean was founded in 2015 as an online journal that celebrates Caribbean artists everywhere. This issue focuses on Caribbean femininity and masculinity. Vidya Birkhoff grew up in Trinidad surrounded by traditional paintings and sculptures created by her grandfather. She longed to one day follow in his footsteps, but life led her into a professional career in corporate America. She started experimenting with acrylic on canvas and in 2007, Vidya was one of seven featured artists during an exhibition held by The Arts and Science Council of Charlotte, North Carolina. After returning to the Caribbean, Vidya opened the JavaLava Art Café in 2014 and launched the “Meet the Artist” exhibitions that offered to emerge and established artists a platform to showcase and sell their works in Montserrat. Ani Waichulis student Bonnie Grace Evans has recently completed her first creative project. Her drawing “Still Waiting”, was inspired by the action of staying where one is or delaying action until a particular time or event. Still Waiting, is a reminder that there are some situations in life that we have control over and others that we do not. Having the courage to face our obstacles, make difficult decisions, meet change, and sometimes alter our goals is critical to realize our hopes and dreams while we are still here.Bonnie Grace Evans was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA and currently lives in Kingston, PA. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both elementary education and psychology from Wilkes University, a Master of Science degree in Special Education from Marywood University, and a Professional Supervisory Certificate in Special Education from Bloomsburg University. During her career as special education teacher, educational consultant for the PA Department of Education, and most recently as Supervisor of Special Education in Early Intervention Preschool, Bonnie always found time to pursue her love of art. She also studied jewelry design and attended various workshops to enhance her skills working with fine and sterling silver. Her jewelry design work can be seen online at Itsosarah Designs website. Bonnie began studying oil painting in 2015 with Terese Rogers, Ani Art Academy Waichulis graduate. She started her apprenticeship at Ani Art Academy Waichulis in 2017 studying under the tutelage of Anthony Waichulis. We all excited to see what Bonnie creates next! For more information on Bonnie and her artwork, please follow the link below.http://aniartacademies.org/artist-gallery?artistid=1294
