Being an Air Force Brat and a Third Culture Kid, Phil cannot claim to be from anywhere exactly but from a little bit of everywhere. Moving every few years his interests changed quickly but his love of drawing and painting never changed. His focus in painting is Trompe l’oeil and is inspired by the idea of creating order from piles of colored goop.  Phil followed his passion for art and was the top graduate for the School of Liberal Arts receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Auburn University and is continuing his pursuits in art at Ani Art Academy Waichulis.

To see Phil’s work, check out his gallery page at: www.aniartacademies.org.

Today at the Ani Art Academy Waichulis, Anthony Waichulis held an Alla prima clinic for all of the apprentices to participate in.  The objective for today’s demonstration was to introduce a looser way of painting and drawing.  The subject chosen was based on the first two forms of the Ani Art Academies program, spherical and cylindrical.

Among different topics, Anthony discussed with the students how to approach the beginning steps of the exercise and all the way through to the end.  At the conclusion of the clinic, apprentices received one-on-one instruction on their individual study.

On the international front, we are elated to report that the expansion of the Ani Art Academy Dominicana (AAADR) is nearing completion. The expansion project to double the size of the AAADR campus was initiated due to an overwhelming amount of interest in the program.  Helping to see to this interest will be recent graduate of the Ani Art Academy Waichulis, Brandon D. Drake.  We are all very excited to see what new works are on the horizon from the growing AAADR family!  We wish Brandon the very best of luck on this journey.

The highly anticipated MUSE exhibition featuring artist Brian O’Neill will be opening this Friday, April 4th. The exhibit is collaboration between the artist, the Rochester City Ballet, and the Arts and Cultural Council for Greater Rochester. The collection will portray Rochester City Ballet dancers in a variety of famous area landmarks and in the studio.

“MUSE” will be the last public exhibition at the Arts and Cultural Council before they relocate to the Kodak Center for Performing Arts.  O’Neill says the move “is bittersweet” because the organization has provided so much support for emerging artists, including himself.

The collection will display a wide range of abstraction and realism work.  Brian O’Neill hopes viewers will appreciate both the abstract and realistic aspects. A portion of the show proceeds will benefit the Rochester City Ballet.

This is one show not to miss if you are in upstate New York!

This past Saturday, Ani Art Academies Anguilla participated in the Anguilla Fashion Expo, a 3-day event open to all the Caribbean Islands to network and learn about emerging trends in the fashion industry. The event was topped off by a regional fashion show.

Head instructor Timothy Jahn and his apprentices participated in the event by exhibiting their drawings. Spectators were able to view the beautiful charcoal drawings displayed on easels on the beach. In addition, Tim gave a drawing demonstration while apprentices did life drawing sessions. At the event, the students were available to meet and provide information to the public about the Ani Art Academies.

With over 300 people in attendance in Anguilla and guests traveling from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic (over an hour and half away), the night was a tremendous success for both academies and the ever-growing accomplishments of the apprentices.  Not only did the students display their drawings headed to New York City, but they also showed creative projects and exercises they take on in the program.

This year, eight artists, Shanicia Richardson, Romaro Richardson, Canita Ruan, Elizardo Mojica, Lynne Garlick, Elena Green, Emily Garlick, and Head Instructor Timothy W.
